Live Your Dream
Our global volunteer organization is dedicated to helping women and teen girls facing obstacles to live their dreams through programs leading social and economic empowerment, such as Live Your Dream and Dream It Be It.
The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards is the signature project of Soroptimist International of Kitchener-Waterloo.
Nearly 1,500 women received a Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award last year across the globe. The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards are cash awards given to motivated women who are the primary financial supporters of their families. The recipients of the awards seek to improve their lives by getting additional skills, training, or education, but do not have the resources to do so. These case awards are meant to offset any costs associated with the recipient's efforts to attain a higher education, including tuition, books, supplies, childcare or transportation costs.
Women are eligible for a Live Your Dream Award of up to $1,000 if they:
- Are the primary financial provider for herself and dependents
- Have financial need
- Are continuing post-secondary education/vocational schooling

Melissa of Kitchener
I am a mom to an amazing 17 year old, who is working hard and planning her bright future. Watching this process made me realize that I can take the same leap and return to school after 25 years. I am so incredibly happy that I did! The pandemic has shown us a different way of living, and I realized that it was time for me to do something that is essential with my future. Not solely to secure employment, but to make a difference in the lives of the people I work with. While I love where I work, and who I work with, it doesn’t make my soul sing. I want and need to be able to encourage, uplift and help change lives, one person at a time.
I am a parent support committee volunteer and am fortunate enough to work with the most remarkable group of young army cadets. Spending time with these kids made me realize how much I enjoy giving back, they are a constant source of joy.
All of the above led me to Seneca College’s Behavioural Sciences Program, a full time 2 year program that opens so many doors to pursue further education if I choose to.
I am proud of myself, and have realized that I should have done this years ago, however, now is my time!
Without support from organizations such as the KW Optimists and the Live your Dream award, chasing my dreams would be out of reach.
Ms B of Kitchener
Soroptimist International of Kitchener-Waterloo is pleased to announce our first Live Your Dream award of $1000 has been granted to Ms B of Kitchener on May 8, 2020. Ms B, a single mom, wanted a brighter future for her kids that her home country could not provide. Pregnant in her third trimester and with two young children under the age of five, she made the tough decision to leave her country to achieve the dream of a better life for her children. With determination and resilience, she continues to pursue her dream, tirelessly doing all she can through work and education, and using the available resources to achieve economic and sound financial independence. With her admiral work ethic, Ms B is a strong and positive role model for her children.
We celebrate and congratulate our very first recipient, Ms B, for her achievements, and wish her well in pursuing her dream of having a line of children's clothing.
